Cuan’s Story
Cuan was taken up ot the NE by CVR on one of our transports. He got a check up from Dr. Andrews, but little did she know what else was hiding: Here is the letter from Cuan's new mom along with a link to the full story with the vet bills.

Cuan (koo-in) is our 1½ year old mastiff puppy. He had a rough life when he lived in Georgia. We found out that he was a stray when he was 6 months old, and he was horribly emaciated and loaded with parasites; inside and out. The veterinary doctor in GA took great of Cuan for 6 months and got him back in good health. Four months ago there was an adoption fair in CT and we just had to have him. Cuan is an excellent dog, he likes to spend his
days sleeping in every room of the house, going on walks, playing with other dogs, and swimming in a nearby lake.

When we brought Cuan home, we knew about his mange, umbilical hernia and floppy dew claws. We immediately took care of the mange and a bad case of
round worms that showed up. Soon after that he seemed much happier but during a follow up the Dr. discovered that three of his teeth were broken off at the gum line and he was at risk of infection so those had to be removed. During our play times and walks we noticed that Cuan was favoring his left leg so the Dr.
suggested we get an x-ray as soon as we could. Since he had to have three of his teeth removed we planned for the additional work. While under anesthesia for the dental work we had them take care of the dew claws, the umbilical hernia and x-ray his legs. Cuan came out of surgery like a champ!
He’s such a good dog, we never had to resort to the “Collar of Shame”!

Cuan was diagnosed with severe degenerative joint disease in the left hip which led to a fracture, less severe arthritis in his right and an injured knee
(likely from the bad hip). Cuan needs a full hip replacement and knee repair on his left side. The right side can likely be treated with care. We have a quote of $6,000 for the surgery he needs. Unfortunately after spending so much so far and trying desperately to come up with the funds to pay for it we can’t seem to come up with the $6,000 needed for his surgery.

We don’t regret adopting Cuan, but it saddens us to know that he is in so much pain, and that we can’t afford to give him a much needed surgery.

Please, if you can, help us give Cuan the surgery he needs.

Thank You

Bethany Hunt
